As a matter of fact, there is nothing to talk about. I don't have a journal for you after all. Sorry, u/snarkhunter (that was you right??). All talk is just decorating the air. Ghosts in the weeds. Quoting the ancients is just family custom. Music to my inner ear. Vibes on vibes on vibes tho.

I don't even talk about Zen anymore. I just quote Zen masters. I find myself explaining them in my own words, and without attributing this to the source. Without explaining why this word vomit salad should belong in here. How dare I? And why quote Zen masters endlessly? Can this man not speak? It is family custom to say a word, after all.

First, to quote a Zen master like this is to state implicitly: I grok this saying. If you grok the saying, it is no longer a saying and there is no grokking whatsoever. If you don't grok the saying, there are nothing but obstructions everywhere. Myriad dharmas give birth to myriad complexities. And then it's like counting grains of sand on the beach day in day out. Why not study Zen while you're at it? It is the energy saving method.

As for me, I don't study Zen because there is nothing for me to study. I am neither a dog with a bone, nor one with a dog in the fight. I had to think about this for a good while. Except I was not thinking. I was doing everything but. Just now it occurred to me that coming here is nothing but a habit. Should I indulge the habit? Should I put an end to it? Is this goodbye? You tell me.

As I see it, there is no Buddha, there are no ordinary people, nothing ancient and nothing new. Those who get it, get it immediately, without taking time, without cultivation, without realization, without attainment, without loss. At all times there is nothing else anymore. Even if there were something beyond this, I say it is like a dream, like a projection. All I ever explain is this. (Linji)
