Haven’t you read the saying of ancient sages, ”Show the truth in every word, refer to the source in every statement.”
You do not yet understand; you just adopt positions at random. Don’t be like this any more when you come for interviews. While it can be said you do not understand, you can be straightened out.
Folks on /r/Zen who can’t say what they believe, proselytize sitting meditation, won’t acknowledge historical facts, and post to /r/Buddhism—idiots. There just isn’t any way around that fact. At least, not through Zen Master Foyan.
I think some people might say he is being harsh…but he was dealing with a community that was grappling with some of the stuff that comes into /r/Zen: wannabe gurus who pretend they have something wise to say, but fumble when unscripted interviews come up.
If someone is letting their community get away with phony enlightenments in phony interviews, it ain’t a Zen community.
Who needs some straightening out?
