1) Where have you just come from?
I don't have a particular lineage,
I come from a rural community of 40 people in the middle of nowhere Texas…I joined the Navy and traveled the world along the way I traveled to Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Malaysia. I admired the story of the Buddha, so I went to many famous temples read the books and did the mediations, sometimes I was lucky enough to meet monks who knew English. However because of my youth I was more concerned about living up to the Sailors tradition of drinking, flirting with women, and getting tattoos. Thankfully the seed had been planted, years later I tried the whole Soto church Zen experience but never got anywhere, tried Rinzai church experience thought it was a little better (at least during my time they mostly discussed zen classics) but something wasn’t right. Then I found the greatest zen reading list by a wonderful member of r/zen and saw all the great discussions. I felt my progress accelerated a lot. No lineage, just experiences.
2) What's your text?
A monk asked Pa Ling, “what is the Blown Hair Sword?”
Pa Ling said, “Each Branch of coral supports the moon.” ~Blue Cliff Record
Scissors beats paper, wisdom cuts through ignorance, if your mind is a rock you may be in trouble.
3) Dharma low tides?
In low tide I look at star fish, in high tide I watch driftwood taken out to sea.
The moon can influence the tides, not me.
