Master Shexian asked a monk, "Where have you come from recently?" The monk said, "No District."

Shexian dragged a boy to his side, slapped him once, and shouted at him, "Get out!"

The monk was speechless.

MASTER Xutang:

I have practiced here and there, but this is the first time that I have met as great a master.

Why slap the boy? I guess it's better than cutting off his finger, right? Did the monk get off with a reduced sentence?
