Comments, thoughts? Comparisons?
- Holding up the flower (jc cleary)
- the snake shows his tail (blyth)
- Kashyapa broke into a smile (t cleary)
- people and gods were collected in a net. (wonderwheel)
I'm working with five or six translations in an attempt to create a more accurate and clear translation of what is happening in the poems.
Compare my version to Yamada. Let's not go into his CV because I am going to humiliate him absolutely:
- In the handing of the flower
- the tail of the snake manifested itself
- Kashyapa breaks into a smile
- Nobody on earth or in heaven knows what to do.
.
Welcome! ewk comment: It should be clear that Yamada is completely wrong on #1, wrong and likely a victim of Japan's passive voice culture on #2, and misses entirely what wonderwheel brings out.. the trapped aspect.
To be fair, everybody, even google translate, gets line 3 correct.
