Master LangYa Jiao instructed an assembly:

When host and guest interact, they settle the universe; when assessment and choice are examined together, who dares look up?

The sage Shakyamuni manifested extinction under twin trees; the great teacher Bodhidharma really returned to Bear Ears Mountain.

Are there any Channists with eyes in my school, any genuine followers of the Way?

If not, medicine is given according to the illness, diagnosis is made for a specific time.

A monk asked:

There's Deshan's staff and Linji's shout - I ask the teacher for a separate path apart from these two routes.

LangYa said:

"A ten ton catapult is not shot at a rat."

The monk thereupon shouted.

LangYa said:

An adept monk.

The monk hesitated, trying to think of something to say.

LangYa then hit him.
