A monk asked Lu-tsu, "What is wordless speaking?"

Lu-tsu asked, "Where do you keep your mouth?"

The monk replied, "There is no mouth."

Lu-tsu said, "With what will you eat?"

The monk didn't reply.

The Master said in his place, "He isn't hungry. What food would he eat?"

Now staying on with Lu-tsu, Dongshan is “looking on”. Most of the case he says nothing. When the monk’s mouth is asked to swallow what he spit up, he can’t find it. Dongshan helps out with his own question to Lu-tsu. I imagine that there would be some people who say that Dongshan falls into the same hole as the monk, but I wonder. Perhaps we should talk about it?
