found this case to be interesting.
case 29, "Ta Sui's It Goes Along With It"
"A monk asked Ta Sui, 'The conflagration at the end of the eon sweeps through and the universe is totally destroyed. I wonder, is this one destroyed or not?' Sui said, 'It is destroyed.' The monk said, 'If so, then this goes along with it.' Sui said, 'It goes along with it.'"
yuanwu's note on sui's last response; "The first arrow was still light but the second arrow was deep. Just this is what so many people cannot find. When the water rises, the boats ride high; with a lot of mud, the buddha image is big. If you say, 'It goes along with that,' where is it? If you say it doesnt go along with that, then what? I'll hit!"
hsueh tou's verse;
"In the light of the conflagration at the end of the age he poses his question -
The patch robed monk is still lingering within the double barrier.
How touching - for a single phrase, 'going along with that.'
Intently, he traveled out and back alone for ten thousand miles."
commentary/questions;
'it goes along with it' is a sick burn. very layered. what is the first it and what is the second it referring to? when the big fucking fire sweeps through the cosmos at the end of the eon, 'this one' is destroyed says ta sui. is 'this one' the buddha nature? yuanwu calls this an emotional understanding in his commentary.
let he who hasnt been caught in the double barrier cast the first downvote
