Blyths translation of the first few lines of the Xin Xin ming.

There is nothing difficult about the Great Way, But, avoid choosing!

Only when you neither love nor hate, Does it appear in all clarity. A hair's breadth of deviation from it, And deep gulf is set between heaven and earth.

If you want to get hold of what it looks like, Do not be anti- or pro- anything. The conflict of longing and loathing, -- This is the disease of the mind.

T. O. M's comment.

I really like the first few lines of the Faith in mind poem.

There is a lot of teaching condensed in it, and given with clarity.

Its a teaching that is upheld across various traditions also ( Zen and Therevada spring to mind, but I'm sure there are more) and for me, if a teaching is espoused by various schools, it is therefore verified with greater clout, and must be more bang for your buck, in this teaching.

This, not being " anti or pro" anything, for me, is a way of removing one's biases, and when we have removed our own biases, we have in effect, removed a huge filter that has been obscuring our view, and are then able to see things clearly and with wisdom.

Peace.
