I often see people here discussing the Patriarchs and old men of Zen with "not Buddha" "no enlightenment and no Dharmas" and "not sitting" and such things.
However similar things are found in the core Zen-Buddhist-Dogenist-Rinzaist (however you like to label it lol) texts such as the Lankavara sutra, Diamond Sutra and Heart sutra. (As well as the old school Buddhist story of the leaving the raft behind and leaving Buddhist tradition behind, if you don't your stuck as a fanatic)
My questions for those of the theory that Buddhism came later and took Zen away from what it was :
Are these sutras just related and simply APPEAR boarder line cited by coincidence?
Did these sutras come later as a way to take Zen and force into a Buddhist lens?
There are unrelated and just appear similar.
Another option I have not seen or thought about
Thanks. Its a genuine question as I'm curious.
