Dahui's Real Original, the First Shobogenzo, Vo. 2:
476 . Master Tianyi Huai said to an assembly, “Skillfully able to distinguish the characteristics of all things without moving from the ultimate truth”—how do you explain this principle of distinguishing? I will try to distinguish: the four directions are it, in the mountains is it, the communal hall, Buddha shrine, kitchen, triple gate, and ‘here’ are it, in the teaching hall is it, the whole land is it; monks are monks, the laity is the laity. How do you explain the ultimate truth? If you can understand here, you pierce old Vimalakirti’s nostrils. If you don’t understand, wait till Aniruddha emerges in the world.
.
(Welcome link) (ewkwho?) note: I flip open the text some days, thinking, "What sort of alien @#$#ery is afoot in Beacon today?"
The answer is: Aniruddha. What does wikipedia have to say?
Aniruddha or Aniruddh (Sanskrit: अनिरुद्ध aniruddha), meaning "unrestrained", "without obstacles" or "unstoppable"... he may be a jana avatar, the avatar of Vishnu...Aniruddha has been also used as one of the names of Lord Shiva. Blah blah blah, princess named Usha, daughter of Banasura (sometimes called Bana), fell in love with Aniruddha in her dream... so naturally her father had him kidnapped. and here is the kicker... According to Shiva Purana, Aniruddha and Usha reborn again as Lakshindar and Behula and in next life married each other again.it is mentioned in Padma Purana.
yeah yeah we get it.
among the splendor of torches of darkness, shedding darkness on the lost bride and her groom. (D.H.)
So when the groom comes again, then you'll be (re)married to your King, the principle of distinguishing.
Uh huh. Tell me something I don't know.
So, who can demonstrate this principle of distinguishing?
