A group of monks approached Bodhidharma,
sitting quiescently beside himself.
"What are you doing by the river, Bodhidharma?"
"I came here to meet a man who sells water."
The monks returned to the temple and told the teacher that Bodhidharma was sitting by the river, waiting for a man who sells water.
The teacher laughed and said,
"THAT POOR FOOL! IS HE SO IGNORANT TO WAIT TO BUY WATER WHEN ALL HE MUST DO IS OPEN THE TAP?!"
Bodhidharma sat quiescently beside himself.
