Blue Cliff Record, Case 11
Huang Po, instructing the community, said, “All of you people are gobblers of dregs; if you go on traveling around this way, where will you have Today? Do you know that there are no teachers of Ch’an in all of China?”
At that time a monk came forward and said, “Then what about those in various places who order followers and lead communities?”
Huang Po said, “I do not say that there is no Ch’an, it’s just that there are no teachers.”
My comment:
Not really being obscure here. People going around putting their attention anywhere but in today. And seeking out teachers all over the place when, in fact, there are mostly scholars and, at best, expressions of Zen but not actually zen masters.
So where will you have today? When is your attention going to stop wondering while your body tries to follow? Food for thought.
I dedicate this to the many gobblers of dregs I know. May one day know better.
And a special mention for those who willingly gobble dreg and call it Zen by following ill willed, faux teachers. And of course to my #1 hater who cannot be a fan because his soul is too twisted and he just can't do it: please, stop gobbling dregs. It is not healthy and doesn't prove you are enlightened. Plus you are fat enough as it is.

PS: Only today I learned what gobbler of dreg means. And I knew this story years ago. Zen Masters can be harsh AF.
