So, do it.
Don't read for the sake of discussion
And don't get your oil confused with your water.
We're serving tea here!
if you can't quote Zen than that's a good sign. Because Chán can't be quoted.
If you're brave as all hell, go and challenge your local zendos, go and seek an old great Master to check his understanding.
It seems to me we've got a group of people here who cant help but write letters to their local Masters and students. You know where they end up?
Burnt for tea
So if you consider yourself worthy, why not use those 2 feet feet and two arms to go and see for yourself. Whose the local Master?
I pose a challenge. For all those Zen Masters and Zen is and isn't members of the forum. Go and challenge your local zendo. Go and see what's what!
There are some users here who only what you to read and study. They say read a book!, Write a book report! They sound like old hags to me.
Go and see for yourself. Show up. And hey, report back. Let us know whose worthy and whose not.
Let us know what happened when you walked east to west in the Chán hall of your local temple.
Was it empty?
We're the cops called?
Did the monk give you their robe and bowl?
As Ikkyu would say
"Studying texts and stiff meditation can make you lose your Original Mind. A solitary tune by a fisherman, though, can be an invaluable treasure. Dusk rain on the river, the moon peeking in and out of the clouds; Elegant beyond words, he chants his songs night after night."
So no, don't do a book report. Go and visit your local Zen temple and tell us what's going on in the living breathing bloody world of Zen.
*TLDR; for all the Zen tough guys out here on r/Zen, let's get real. These are the minor leagues. The practice rounds. Real men and Real followers of Zen don't spend their lives sending letters back and forth into the wind. The go and see what's what and whose who.
So if there is some phony religious cult out there pretending to be Zen who better to confront that cult of frauds than you!
Go out and confront the local Zen churches! And let us know how that goes.
Why keep all this confidence, faith, and determination to set the record straight on the school of Zen only on a text based internet website? Turn up the heat and go out there and let us know how it goes and what you uncover.
I am anxiously awaiting the results.
Who knows you may even find a legitimate modern Zen tradition that is existing outside of r/Zen
