Soto Zen: Cultivating Practice

Master Zhenjing said to an assembly:

"In the school of Dongshan you go when you need to go, sit when you need to sit, shitting in a bowl, puking in a pitcher; cultivating practice attached to dogma is like an ox pulling a millstone."

Sitting is the 'Dharma Gate of Repose & Bliss' and a spiritual practice to be cultivated in order to realize the Dharma of Zen Master Dongshan?

Not Soto, not Zen.

It's still astonishing the sheer amount of literature Zen Masters left behind...it's not astonishing at all that people come in here pretending Soto & Dogen/Hakuin's syncretic religious lineages have anything in common or that descendants of Linji & Dongshan didn't equally show Buddhists the door.
