The two main ways of practicing or learning about zen are as follows.. (so I understand)
Positive zen. The Active way to learn. Put forth effort to learn and study koan, purposefully engaging the mind in a tradition of positive action towards reading and studying koan.. Actively engaging the intellect and conceptual thought, to tire out this way of thinking, twist the conceptual mind up, leave it dead and see what remains..
Negative zen. The passive way to learn.. Zazen. The process of stilling the mind and body to reveal mind constructs and perception, feelings and desires, so one can remove these and see what remains.
Is the passive approach lacking anything?
Is the positive approach lacking anything?
