Ogino Dokuon - Rinzai Zen (bare with me on this)

There is a Zen story regarding this nice fellow. He lived between 1820-1895. He was into some office positions later in his life and also remembered for his solid stance against Buddhist religious oppression during his period.

A student of Zen visits him at some point. In order to show of his attainment to Dokuon he said: "The mind, Buddha, and sentient beings, after all, do not exist. The true nature of phenomena is emptiness. There is no realisation, no delution, no sage, no mediocrity. There is no giving and nothing to be recieved.

Ok. Look at them big Enlightened balls on this guy! He got the shit by the throat, everyone is spilling their beans arround him.

Dokuon, who was smoking quietly, said nothing. Suddenly he whacked the student with his bamboo pipe. This made the young chap quite angry. "If nothing exists," inquired Dokuon, "where did this anger come from?"

Been reading slaps and hitting for a while now. This guy made some point beyond the act of slapping.

So where does it come from? When it happens ...
