Why do people come to r/Zen and advocate “stages of practice,” “stages of understanding,” and/or “progression”?
Is it because they’ve experienced life and want to show off to everyone that they’ve “walked many steps,” and “been through a lot”?
If you succeed in convincing people, there’s your religion.
You might even end up being praised, like Dogen.
Well, how come Zen Masters don’t advocate “stages” and “progression”?
A: Zen Masters weren’t religious.
