The Real Shobogenzo: If it weren't for you meddling kids

Dahui's Real Original, the First Shobogenzo:

Elder Taiyuan Fu was managing the bath house at Xuefeng.  In the course of a visit by maser Xuansha to Xuefeng, Xuefeng said, “I have an old rat here—now he’s under the bath house.”

Xuansha said, “Wait till I check him out for you.”  As soon as he went there, he saw Elder Fu putting in water; he said, “A new arrival has come to see you.”  Fu said, “We’ve already met.”  Xuansha said, “In what eon have we ever met?”  Fu said, “Don’t snooze.”

Xuansha went back and told Xuefeng, “I’ve checked him out.”  Xuefeng said, “How did you check him out?”  Xuansha related the foregoing talk.  Xuefeng said, “You ran into a brigand.”

Dahui said, “One more’s been checked out.”

(Welcome link) ewk link note: This seems like silly fun on the surface, but underneath it is a very dangerous game. Don't believe me? Well, let's take the other side first: Religions can't risk misunderstanding... memorization and compliance are essential to the survival of any religion. When people start making their own interpretations and forming their own conclusions there tends to be schism after schism in the catechism.

So, now, returning to Zen Masters' teachings... what is Dahui teaching here? Not understanding, how can someone convince people of an interpretation? Where is there a catechism to divide people? Still, with all these investigations, you can't say nothing has come of it.
