Once a monk who had stayed at Xuefeng Monastery in the south came to see Master Joshu. Master Xeufeng Yicun, the teacher at this monastery, had risen to great prominence in his region. Joshu asked the monk, "What is Master Xeufeng teaching these days?"
The monk reported that Xeufeng had said, "The whole world is the eye of a practitioner. Where will you take a shit?"
Master Zhaozhou replied, "If you return to Xeufeng, you should take a trowel."
