The most important thing people seem to misunderstand about Zen is that it's not about philosophical inquiries, it's more like philosophical investigations. Zen shouldn't be far from constant practice. It doesn't matter to read about nondualism and recite a whole paragraph from mind (not from heart) and not practice it.

Question one

Any Zen patriarch "denouncing" Zen seated meditation was actually denouncing its wrong interpretation. It's not seated meditation. It's just sitting. Sitting as in putting your ass on the ground. And breathing, unless you want to die.

Question two

While Zen has no conceptual essence, I called a friend of mine on the phone to talk about anything. She started speaking about troubles she had on her life, and I just closed my eyes and tried to focus on her voice, treating her as a part of me. After a while, I felt no difference between the voice coming out of my mouth and hers, I couldn't tell which one of us was "I", and most importantly, I didn't want to tell. We ended up having a great conversation for half an hour and she later told me "I" gave her the comfort and confidence that she needed to go on with some troubles she was going through. People feel defensive when you tell them you are the same as them, so please try not to do that lol

Question three

I never understood that question, and that's why it's my favourite. Look into the eyes of your "student" and make them realize there's no low or high points. The best thing you could do is make people feel comfortable to share their doubts, and when they share them, clear them out. Any doubts they have is a doubt of yours. Would you like to live under doubt?

Any help?
