What is astonishing is the real life parellels between Buddhism, especially Dogen Buddhism, and the treatment of Zen texts in Western culture, particular Buddhist religious writing and Buddhist academics.
- Failure to quote Zen Masters in discussing Zen teachings
- "Close enough" mentality where Buddhists substitute their beliefs for Zen Masters' teachings
- Blaming Zen Masters for errors by scholars ("Zen is full of paradoxes", etc)
- Claims about history, geography, etc. that aren't sufficiently researched, sourced, or properly identified as supposition (i.e. grave markers more accurate than books written by Zen Masters)
- Obvious errors of misinterpretation due to perspectives rooted in Buddhist catechisms that aren't themselves formally defined.
And so on.
Hilarious.
I should have just written one of those instead of this: https://www.reddit.com/r/zen/comments/erabd2/hey_rzen_i_wrote_you_another_book/
