Friday Night Poetry Slam

Week 1 -- GRATITUDE

A theme is only a suggestion.

_ _ _

Thank you for the garlands and chains veiled in emotions
Flowers wash away in the rains harlems to oceans
Parade dress for the triumph of white lions in finery
Lay about with a fiery breath blessing the rivalry
Thank you for the effort, as iron sharpened my iron
Never’s hard edge dealt a fell blow in alliance
My heart stopped for a moment,
Eyes locked and I fell through
To the dark side of your sunglass
With the black tint, in the rearview.
So thank you for the myriad ways of your salvation
I’m tearing up just thinking of days in isolation
You see-- they make a desert and call it peace in my nation.
But here I found the leisure for sleep and conversation
So, thank you, I'm growing with the storm and sun
I know nothing 'bout the rain but how it feels when it runs
