I would like try to start a discussion about Dogen/Beginner's Mind that addresses key IDEAS that many deem incompatible with Zen in it's Chan form

Yes I know Ewk or another will bring up the several sex predators. Which is a real thing and should be talked about openly as failings of the Soto tradition. Also I am aware of the history of Dogen and his "bizzare timelines" of going to diffrent places that don't seem possible and other shady stuff he did.

These things, should be discussed and I don't want to shutdown that discussion. However for this discussion I wanted to focus on what the man wrote and not the man himself. An analogy could be "seperating the art from the artist". I am looking for a content assasiantion and less of a character assasiantion

I know the issue with his focus on Zazen, that the Hunagbo and others only lightly mentioned meditation (if at all) and this idea that meditation/specifically zazen is the way to Zen seems misguided.

What other teaching's are in core conflict?
