You must defeat Wandering Ronin to stand a chance: why not study Zen while you're here?

People are often hindered by environmental phenomena from perceiving Mind, and by individual events from perceiving underlying principles; so they often try to escape from environmental phenomena in order to still their minds, or to obscure events in order to retain their grasp of principles.

They do not realize that this is merely to obscure phenomena with Mind, events with principles. Just let your minds become void and environmental phenomena will void themselves; let principles cease to stir and events will cease stirring of themselves.

Huangbo Xiyun [died 850?]: On the Transmission of Mind, translated by John Blofeld, 1958

Commentary and questions: It is known by some that am a Zen devil with wild fox spirit tendencies. Disclaimer: Not a single person here should be listening to me or following anything I say over the Zen masters. An understanding like mine can cause a lot of turmoil and chaos, apparently, haha. I'm that red imp sitting on your left shoulder, whispering in your ear: burn the texts, disrespect the masters! Am I an advanced practitioner or a complete charlatan, and tell me, what's the difference? That really depends on your vantage point, but I'll tell you one thing, the absolute titans of Zen in here barely even notice what I say.

But every now and then I feel a little of that old fashioned compassion, and want to do the right thing. Here, Huangbo teaches: People are often hindered by environmental phenomena from perceiving Mind, and by individual events from perceiving underlying principles. That's about all you need to put me and all of the myriad things in their place, but how can some continue to miss teachings like this so egregiously? Just let your minds become void and environmental phenomena will void themselves. I'm nothing more than a tangle of concepts and environmental phenomena, a mere distraction from the underlying principle, or a ghost, if you will. Why hand over your freedom and inherent power to me or any other environmental phenomena so willingly?

And now for the advanced Zen practitioners among us: Nine Inch Nails. Only
