I used to meditate but I was coming from a place of non understanding and messed up a little, trying to 'destroy concepts' and stuff until I found one day that I kept reading words and hearing sounds without mentally registering them. It's easy to underestimate the power of meditation. Anyway I stopped for about a year and zen now gives me all the existential development I could possibly want.
I used to think you shouldn't meditate, but the problem isn't with meditation, it's with seeking some form of ultimate truth through it. It's just like anything really.. If you want to meditate, go ahead, meditate, but don't go seeking something through that meditation because that's extremely pointless and rather dumb. So anyway I'm feeling rather tired these days and been considering taking up meditation to enter the jhanas as a means of mental restoration, since apparently deep meditation can replace a significant amount of sleep it is so restorative.
I was wondering whether any of you practice meditation and your experiences with it perhaps? Would you recommend it as an exercise? Likely many of you used to practice meditation before encountering zen.. Now that are less likely to make such big deal out of meditation, how's it been for you, if you still do so?
