Came up not long ago. Given all the fuzzy definitions here and there of who's a zen master and who's not it can be hard to make sense of things! So what do people think, Bankei: zen master or not? He's generally considered accepted as such by the forum, yet had no immediate connection to the lineage but was a couple 100 years behind. Still, it's known the transmission don't let time stand in the way, right!
Personally I think Bankei had some rock n roll zen!
