Hui-Neng's Diamond Sutra: The True Source of the Great Vehicle Part 3

From The Sutra of Hui-Neng, Grand Master of Zen: With Hui-Neng's Commentary on the Diamond Sutra. Everything italicized is from the Diamond Sutra proper, the rest is Hui-Neng's commentary. Let me know what you guys think of Hui-Neng's commentary.

...and thus liberate them through extinction.

**The Realized One points out that each living being in the universe has the sublime heart of nirvana, causing them to realize it themselves and enter remainder less nirvana. "Remainderless" means that there is no habit forces or afflictions; "nirvana" means complete purity. This is attained only by extinguishing all habit energies, causing them never to occur. "Liberation" means crossing over the ocean of birth and death.

Buddha's mind is impartial, wishing to enter into complete pure remainder less nirvana and cross the oceans of birth and death along with all living beings, sharing the same realization of all buddhas. There are people who understand and practice yet entertain a sense of attainment, producing a self-image, which is called the religious ego. Only when you get rid of the religious ego is it called liberation through extinction.

What are habit forces? How does one extinguish all habit energies? Amazing, how one can understand and practice and still not be liberated. That sense of attainment seems to be a pitfall.....
