For me, Zen seems on the surface, antinomian.
As a westerner with a Christian background I'm made very aware of how my actions affect others, so I try to choose to do good instead of evil whenever I can.
Zen’s ostensive emphasize on non-discrimination (intellectual or otherwise) and spontaneous action seems very misguided for me as a westerner.
I assume Zen Buddhism isn’t necessarily antinomian, because I’m not too knowledgeable about Zen or Mahayana Buddhism in general. Could someone clarify Zen’s ethical stances, and if so, with some sources? A single quote from a Sutra or poem together with its explanation would be great, thanks.
