Are you able to stop thinking in the same way that you are able to stop talking?
For me, thinking seems involuntary; so I wonder if “thinking” is the right word when Sengcan says:
Stop talking and thinking, and you penetrate everywhere.
In the Foyan, Cleary uses the word “cogitating”, which means to ‘think deeply about something; meditate or reflect’.
“Cogitating” seems more voluntary to me than “thinking”; and I can say that I do feel capable of stopping that like the way that I can stop talking.
