I live in a temple and want to express gratitude and admiration to those who don't. I know people who drive or bike some great distance in the dark hours of the morning to sit with others. When the wake up bell comes around for me, I still struggle to just get up and go.
I have this dream that there could be a Zendo in every neighborhood, maybe a priest who runs that Zendo. Doesn't have to be a full blown temple, but just a place to sit with about 8 cushions. Maybe some simple chanting afterword.
It could look like this. A person decided to try; they take a room in their house or apartment and make it into a zendo or they convert it once a week or once a day. Then this person thinks I'd like more training and they go to some bigger temple to train; maybe for 3 months, maybe for 3 years, there could be different tracks to help support people. Then they develop a sangha right where they are.
I know this is happening to some extent, but here I am at my in laws and there's no temple within 20 min drive, let alone walking distance.
So that's my dream, a zendo everyone can walk to.
