Dharma Combat with Splash Fight

From Green's translation of Layman Pang's Record:

One day, the Layman was out for a walk with Tanhsia [also Mazu's] when they came upon a deep, clear pond.

The Layman gestured toward it and said, "Consider this! Can you devise a way to make use of this?"

Tanhsia said, "Thi sis obvious! A way to use this can't be devised." The Layman then splashed water onto Tanhsia twice.

Tanhsia said, "Stop this! Stop this!"

The Layman said, "You asked for this! You asked for this!"

Tanhisa then splashed the Layman three times, saying, "So, now what else are you going to do with this?"

The Layman said, "There is nothing left to do."

Tanhsia said, "There aren't many who have such luck."

The Layman said, "Who has had such luck?"

ewk ? note: Can you imagine that there are people afraid to study this stuff? Some seem to be angry that there aren't books written about them. Others are terrified of Emptiness, that it would take away their "realization" (it would) or that the mysterious understanding will be out of their reach forever.

What continues to surprise me is the gap between the ordinary people who ask questions in this forum and the trolls who hang out here, desperate to show off something, imitate someone, prove some kind of belief... but what is the difference between any of us and these Oshos? Before Osho was a sex predator, wasn't he ordinary? What happened then? He lied... people believed him... the next thing you know he is a bioterrorist with 90 Rolls Royces?

How to stop people from believing you? How to stop lying once you start?
