Long post about zen and stuff...

This is from personal experience, but ill phrase it in the context of zen, I think it’s the same “psychological” dilemma.

Zen Masters have frequently denounced organized religion and rituals (meditation, worship, specific means)

Yet at the same time I believe it was Huangpo, prayed to his former master every morning and seemed to follow many of the dogmatic practices he denounced (meditation, etc..)

Clearly he had an affinity for the traditions/history/practices, but they are not how he teaches/talks.

Relating back to me, I want a community and daily life based around spiritual premises, but I don’t want to stray from the way by mistaking the religion for the way.

What would the Zen Masters have been if buddhism hadn’t preceded them?
