In the midst of the idea of a modern-day Mumonkan, I have an idea

Lots of squabbling is sure to go round if someone presents their attempt at a modern-day rephrasing of some X Case from Mumonkan. So, as a separate exercise, I had an idea.

What if we put forward our "modern day" version of some case, but we change the names, settings, etc. so that it isn't obvious which case we're talking about. (Except for maybe the length of it, but yolo)

Then, we see if we can guess which reformulation of the Cases go to which Case. Being able to do this means that there is at least some common intuition between Mumonkan's Cases and the rephrasing.

So it's basically a game.

Defense:

  • Pick a Case from the Mumonkan

  • Try reformulating the Case w/ different settings, names, metaphors, etc. so that it isn't obvious from the wording alone which Case you're reformulating.

Offense:

  • Read through the submitted reformulations and try to guess which Case they go to.
