"Deluded, he does not realize that he is so, and the even blasphemes the scriptures and the Law [dharma]! That is the reason why absence-of-thought [無心] is instituted as the doctrine. Because people who are deluded have thoughts about external objects, perverse views arise in them, and all sorts of afflictions resulting from passions and erroneous thoughts are produced" (Hui-neng, The Platoform Scripture 17).
