How is Buddhism taught there?

Master Luohan Chen asked a monk from Baofu, “How is Buddhism taught there?”

The monk said, “Baofu sometimes says to the group, ‘Block your eyes so you can’t see; block your ears so you can’t hear; stop your conceptual faculty so you can’t discriminate.’”

Chen said, “I ask you, if you don’t block your eyes, what do you see? If you don’t block your ears, what do you hear? If you don’t stop your conceptual faculty, how do you discriminate?”

The monk had insight at these words.

Dahui remarked, “Wealth despises a thousand mouths as too few; poverty resents one body as too much.”

From the Dahui Shobogenzo

Note: Baofu Congzhan was a disciple of Xuefeng and was enlightened during an interaction with him. No idea who Luohan was. This reminds me of the student of Mazu who continued to teach "mind is Buddha" and the student who told him Mazu had started to teach the opposite.
