Today I came across this interesting definition of Buji-Zen:
(Jap.). Bravado or excessive self-confidence in the practice of zen. A tendency attributed to some practitioners, particularly in the Sōtō school, to convince themselves that since all beings possess the Buddha-nature they are already enlightened and hence have no need to exert themselves further.
First of all, it's nice to learn that we are following a time-honored Zen tradition here, because for several months I was beginning to suspect we're just a bunch of postmodern edge lords and lazy ass clowns!
For your convenience, I've compiled a complete manual of Buji-Zen. I know, I know, you don't like reading, but look at the upside: by reading this one short manual, you will save yourselves the trouble of later reading so many posts and comments that merely replicate its content with excessive verbosity!
The manual is very short and simple, just two steps, and can be followed by even the laziest among you:
- First, you don't do anything.
- Then, nothing happens and you don't get enlightened!
What a compelling proposition!
