Zhaozhou by some is touted to have been the greatest Chan master of China's Tang dynasty. But the fact remains that he never said anything profound or great so as to open the spiritual eye of the dimwits who visited him. By all outward appearances he was a charlatan. If Zhaozhou had actually realized what the Buddha realized then what is it? Surely, something was transmitted otherwise Zhaozhou is a charlatan.
