How would if have been if you were living in china , 1000 years ago? You encounter the teachings of huang po or maybe foyan , you find yourself a small booklet. And you dont have access to all the books in the world and so all thats in that book suddenly speaks to you. And you dont have youtube or google or reddit , you dont have accesss to instant music , or to a mobile device , you dont have movies or malls , you dont have a nice bathroom and a comfortable bed, you dont have.
You have basicly your huang po/any zen book ,yourself ,and alot of free time.
You cant access the internet , so you wont be distracted from your work.
You wont have youtube/reddit/facebook/blogs/whatever so thats already a major distraction took away.
You dont have a comfortable bed and you dont have a hot shower, so even more distraction took away.
You dont have a mini collection of zen books, so no distraction from what huang po has to say .
Maybe you wanna talk with someone about it but you have no way , your wife dosent care avout zen and all your friends are simple land workers with ordinary goals , so you are all alonr.
Its just you , huang-po , and all your time , and no place where you can escape your work .
