Because the venerable /u/ewk kept badgering me, I actually went ahead and read the sidebar (because if you don't do so, apparently that makes you a "church person").
Here's what I found out that Zen is (emphasis mine):
- The separate transmission outside the teachings,
- Not based on the written word,
- Points directly at the human mind—
- You see your nature and become a buddha.
Says right there, in black and white: "not based on the written word."
What is this whole forum about, then? I don't see anyone posting images, videos, or voice messages on here. Everyone seems to be using the written word.
Hence, by your own definition of Zen, you guys are all full of shit. I declare shenanigans.
