Zen employs the scientific method.
First we hold a hypothesis. Then we test it via experiment. Then we modify our hypothesis to fit the evidence. Repeat forever.
In Zen our hypothesis is whatever brought us to Zen; a promise of enlightenment, truth, freedom, power, entertainment or whatever.
In Zen our experiment is meditation. That is, we examine the raw stuff of reality with exquisite care.
In both cases the hypothesis is just paper in the wind. To be mangled in an instant.
In both cases the experiment is key.
