(x-post from r/meditation) I have a question regarding the non resistance to movement that Adyashanti speaks of

I just watched this video https://youtu.be/HLFU34sIY7w and am left wondering how I should handle desires that arise in my mind that society or my family will deem inappropriate.

For example, I'm 18 right now, and am well aware of the dangers of smoking. Both my father and cousin are addicts. I've smoked about 20 cigarettes my whole life. Each one of those cigarettes I thoroughly enjoyed. They were almost all different brands/flavors. I live with only my mom right now and she absolutely will not be ok with me smoking. What I want is a short happy life full of excitement and joy rather than a monotonous long life full of work and no play.

All I really wish to have is peace 24/7, or as much as possible. If there is a way I can achieve this without giving into desires, I'm all ears.

Thank you.
