My problem with quoting zen masters

I would like to use an analogy.

Imagine you were tasked with writing a book for aliens to read. And this book was the only thing the aliens would be able to know about humans.

Well what would you put in it?

It turns out there's no way to use only words to describe how words are used.

In this way, zen masters are unable to have the effect on us through words that they were able to transmit to the people around them.

No one here has been enlightened by reading the sacred texts, so empirical evidence suggests it may never be accomplished, or at least is an inefficient way.

We need more than just words of enlightened beings. It arises in me, that I need to see a master smile and look me in the eye.

To be questioned by a man, and be unable to answer.

This has arisen in me, it may be bullshit and I make no claims on it's truth. I hope this sharing is agreeable with enough of you.
