This is going to be longer for you than most of my posts if you work through it. In that sense it's a little experiment.
Randy Newman is a singer songwriter with a particular interest in suffering.
1 - What is this memory-life-experience-past-present-thing?

Zhaozhou -
A monk asked, "What is a person who doesn't forget anything of the past and present?"
The master said, "You should not try to tie down the mind. Be mindful of the Buddha everywhere in all things."

A monk asked, “In the days of the Buddha, it was transmitted by the Buddha. After Buddha passed into nirvana, who is there to transmit it?”
The master said, “The entirety of the past and present are in me.”
2 - What do we know? What knowledge do we have in common?

Zhaozhou -
Monk: A poor man has come. How can he be saved?
Zhaozhou: You are not poor.
Monk: The how do you deal with the fact that I am begging from you?
Zhaozhou: By just firmly staying poor.

A monk asked, "I've come a long way to see you; it's not clear to me, what is your 'family custom'? "
The master said, "I don't talk about it to people."
The monk said, "Why do you not talk about it to people?"
The master said, "That's my family custom."
The monk said, "You do not talk about it, but why do the four seasi come to see you?"
The master said, "You are the Sea, I am not the sea."
The monk said, "It's not clear to me, what is in the sea?"
The master said "I've hooked one!"
3 - What is Justice? Fairness? What is "Good"?
Randy Newman - Life is not fair
(There's a long intro, but stick with it)
Nobody could rise to high, nobody could sink too low
Or go under completely like some we all know

The master questioned two new arrivals.
The master asked the first One, "Have you been here before?'
The monk said, "No, I haven't."
The master said, "Go have some tea."
The master then asked the other monk, "Have you been here before?"
The monk said, "Yes, I have."
The master said, "Go have some tea."
The monk asked, "Setting aside the fact that you told the one who'd never been here before to go have some tea, why did you tell the one who had been here before to go have some tea?"
The master said, "Head monk!"
The head monk said, "Yes?"
The master said, "Go have some tea."
